2. What we collect and why
Visiting this website
Our hosting provider (Netlify) automatically records technical data such as your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, to deliver the site and keep it secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in running a safe website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). These logs are kept for a short period only.
To display the site, your browser also loads fonts from Google Fonts and, on the Venice apartment pages, map tiles from OpenStreetMap and the map software from cdnjs (Cloudflare). These providers receive your IP address when the content loads. Legal basis: legitimate interest in presenting the site properly.
Visitor statistics (only with your consent)
If you click "Accept" in the cookie banner, we use Google Analytics (Google Ireland Ltd) to count visits and see which pages are useful. Google Analytics sets cookies and processes your IP address in shortened form. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you decline, Google Analytics is not loaded. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page.
Availability calendar
The availability calendar shows only which dates are booked. It does not use or show any guest data.
Bookings
Bookings are made through our booking system Kross Booking. We process your name, contact details, stay dates, number of guests, payment information and any messages you send us, in order to manage your booking and stay. Legal basis: performance of a contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Card payments are handled by the payment provider; we never see or store your full card number.
Payments on this website
Payments made on our own pages (Venice tourist tax, wellness package, golf cart) are processed by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe Ltd, Ireland). Legal basis: performance of a contract.
Legal obligations in Italy
Italian law requires us to register every guest's identity with the Police (Alloggiati Web, Art. 109 TULPS), to collect and report the municipal tourist tax, to send anonymous statistics to the tourism authorities, and to keep accounting records. For this we need your identity document details at check-in. Legal basis: legal obligation (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).
Contacting us
If you write to us by email or WhatsApp, we use your message and contact details to reply. WhatsApp is a service of Meta Platforms Ireland Ltd, and its own privacy policy applies when you choose to use it.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
| Name | Purpose | Duration | Needs consent |
|---|---|---|---|
| vg_consent | Remembers your cookie choice (stored in your browser) | 6 months | No (essential) |
| _ga, _ga_* | Google Analytics visitor statistics | Up to 2 years | Yes |
The booking pages at venetogems.kross.travel are run by Kross Booking and ask for their own cookie consent.
4. Who receives your data
We share data only with the service providers needed to run our business: Netlify (hosting), Kross Booking (booking system), Stripe and the payment provider of the booking system (payments), Google (fonts and, with your consent, statistics), the booking platforms if you booked through them, our local team who prepare your stay, our accountant, and public authorities where the law requires it. We never sell your data.
Some providers (for example Google, Netlify, Stripe and Meta) may process data in the United States. These transfers are covered by the EU–US Data Privacy Framework or by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.
5. How long we keep data
Booking and invoice records are kept for 10 years, as required by Italian accounting law. Messages are kept for as long as needed to handle your stay and any follow-up. Statistics data in Google Analytics is kept for at most 14 months.
6. Your rights
You have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw your consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. To exercise these rights, email us. You also have the right to complain to a data protection authority: in Italy, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it), or the authority where you live.
7. Changes
We may update this policy when our services or the law change. The date at the top shows the latest version.
